PRODUCE PICKUP

Fry Nursery has offered the use of its facility to Cane Creek Valley Farm as a weekly drop off spot for share-purchased organic fruits and vegetables in Transylvania and Henderson counties

"Fry Nursery has offered the use of its facility to Cane Creek Valley Farm as a weekly drop off spot for share-purchased organic fruits and vegetables in Transylvania and Henderson counties”, stated Richard Fry of Fry Nursery & Landscape. Beginning May 20, Cane Creek Valley Farm of Fletcher will deliver the freshest of their available field grown certified organic produce to the nursery which is located off Highway 280 in Pisgah Forest.

“Purchasing fruits and veggies from our local Western N.C. farmers is a win-win situation for both homeowners and farmers in these difficult economic times”, said Fry. The consumer commits to a pre-season purchase of either a full share – a weekly pick-up for the 20 week season, or a half share for a bi-monthly pick-up for ten weeks. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card and may be split into three payments, beginning in March, 2009.

Produce will be delivered on Wednesday’s beginning in May and will continue into October. Each three-quarter bushel box should feed a hungry family of four to six people for a one-week period. The variety of home-grown fruits and vegetables produced by this certified organic farm may be viewed at their web site CaneCreekOrganics.com.

The knowledge that the consumer is supporting local farmers and their families via Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is an added ‘warm and fuzzy’ return. Fry Nursery will host Amanda Sizemore of Cane Creek Valley Farm at 3 p.m. Saturday April 4, when she will speak on organic vegetable growing and community supported agriculture. There is not an admission fee and the lecture is open to the general public. For more information you may contact Pam Fry at 828 884-6491.
